Encaustic, poured and pressed by hand
Cement Tile
Encaustic cement tile carries its pattern in coloured cement poured by hand into a brass mold, then pressed and air-cured, never fired or glazed. The result is a matte, naturally slip-resistant tile that works on floors as well as walls. We stock 14 handmade cement tile designs. Order samples first, then the whole job with 15% overage.

Cement tile bathroom floors and showers
A patterned cement tile floor is the classic partner to plain or zellige bathroom walls. Cement tile is matte and naturally slip-resistant, which is why it suits a bathroom floor and a shower floor where glazed zellige does not. Every design shown here is listed on its own product page for bathroom floors and walls and for shower walls and floors.
Cement tile is unglazed, so it is sealed as part of installation; read the cement installation guide with your installer first. Lay a few samples together on the floor to see how a pattern repeats across the room before you order the whole job, with 15% overage.

Cement Tile questions
What is encaustic cement tile?
Encaustic cement tile is a pattern made of coloured cement, not a printed or glazed surface. Each Zellaro cement tile is made one at a time in a brass mold: mineral pigments mixed with white cement, marble powder and fine sand are poured by hand, colour by colour, then backed with cement and sand and pressed hydraulically. The tiles are soaked for 24 hours and air-cured for seven days. There is no kiln and no glaze.
Can cement tile go on a floor or in a shower?
Yes. Cement tile is made for floors as well as walls. Its matte finish is naturally slip-resistant, which is why it suits bathroom floors and showers, where glazed zellige does not.
Does cement tile need sealing?
Yes. Cement tile is unglazed, so it is sealed as part of installation. Read our cement installation guide with an installer who has experience sealing handmade cement tile before work starts.
Will every tile look identical?
No. Because each tile is poured by hand, there are subtle variations in tone and texture from tile to tile. That is part of handmade cement tile, and it is why we recommend a sample first.
How much should I order?
Order at least 15% more than your measured area, and order the whole job at once. Handmade tile is final sale and later batches can differ.
