Zellige Tile questions

What is zellige tile?

Zellige is glazed clay tile from Fez, Morocco. Each Zellaro zellige tile is shaped from Fez clay by hand, glazed one by one with mineral glazes and fired in traditional olive-pit kilns. Because every tile is made by hand, the size, the edge and the shade of the glaze vary slightly from tile to tile. That variation is the look.

What sizes does zellige come in?

We stock zellige in 2x2 and 4x4 squares, 2x6 bejmat rectangles, and 8x8 trapezoid, octagon and clover shapes that interlock into a pattern. The 4x4 square is the most versatile size for backsplashes and bathroom walls.

Where can I use zellige tile?

Zellige is a wall tile: kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, shower walls, fireplace surrounds and feature walls. It does not belong on a floor, because the glaze is slick when wet. For floors use 2x6 bejmat or cement tile.

How much extra zellige should I order?

Order at least 15% more than your measured area, and 20% for herringbone. Handmade tile varies, some pieces are set aside during installation, and you will want spares from the same batch for future repairs. The tile calculator on every product page adds the overage for you.

Can I see the colour before I order?

Yes. You can order up to 5 samples free and pay shipping only: $7 for the first sample and $4 for each one after. Look at them in your own light, because zellige glazes shift with daylight and lamp light.

How is zellige shipped?

Orders ship from our Miami warehouse. Orders of more than two boxes ship by LTL freight and are delivered curbside. Free pickup from the Miami warehouse is available on request.

Can I return zellige tile?

Because the tiles are handmade, all sales are final. That is why we recommend ordering samples first and ordering 15% overage with the main order.

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes. Designers, architects and contractors with an approved trade account get 25% off every order, applied automatically in the cart.
