What can actually go outside
Outdoors is where the material list gets shorter and the reasons get simple: freeze-thaw and standing water. Our pavers and unglazed terracotta bejmat are the formats made for a patio — thicker bodies, no glaze to craze, and a surface with grip when wet.
Glazed zellige should not go on an outdoor floor. It is slick when wet, and in any climate that freezes, water in the tile body is what breaks tile. If you want zellige outside, put it on a sheltered wall or an outdoor kitchen splashback, not underfoot.
Natural stone pavers for pool decks and patios
Our stone pavers are natural travertine, marble and limestone in a French pattern, listed for pool decks, patios, driveways, walkways and backyards. Travertine comes tumbled; marble comes sandblasted or leathered, both textured for slip resistance. They are sold by the crate, about 175 square feet each, and quoted rather than sold online.
Sealing for a patio, and climate
Unglazed terracotta outdoors needs a breathable sealer, not a film-forming one — a sealed film traps moisture under it and lifts. Reseal on a schedule that matches your weather rather than a fixed number of years.
In a hard-freeze climate, ask before you buy. We ship nationwide from Miami and the right specification for a Florida terrace is not the right specification for a Chicago courtyard.
Common Questions
Can zellige tile be used outdoors?
On a sheltered wall or an outdoor kitchen splashback, yes. Not on an outdoor floor: the glaze is slippery when wet, and in a freezing climate water in the tile body is what causes failures.
What tile is best for a patio?
Pavers or unglazed terracotta bejmat — thicker bodies, no glaze to craze, and grip underfoot when wet.
Does outdoor terracotta need sealing?
Yes, with a breathable sealer. A film-forming sealer traps moisture underneath and lifts. Reseal on a schedule set by your climate, not a fixed interval.
